Senator Fitzmorris was elected to the senate in 2002 as the youngest Senator in Texas history. She was appoited Minority Leader this year, as she solidifies the values of the Republican party through her voting record. Currently serving her second term in the senate, Senator Fitzmorris got her start in politics as an intern for Senator David Vitter from her home state of Louisiana. She fell in love with Texas at a young age visiting her grandparents who are from Austin. After graduating from Louise S. McGehee School in 1989, she went on the Southern Methodist University where she recieved her Bachelor of Business Administration in 1993. She currently resides in Dallas with her husband, musician Richard Fleeshman, and their two sons, Tucker and Phillip.
Currently, Senator Fitzmorris is writing a welfare reform and stimulus bill, the Keep What You Earn and Earn What You Keep Act, with Senator Platt of Texas. The bill is scheduled to go to committee sometime this month.
Keep What You Earn and Earn What You Keep Act
Purpose:
To strenghten the founation of our capitalist economy
To allow Americans to keep more of what they earn
To stimulate the economy through more individual disposable income
To lower the number of citizens dependent on the government for income
Eligibility
An individual may apply for this program if he or she:
is currently part of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program
has held the same job for a year
demonstrates an ability to maintain steady employment through positive work evaluations from current employer
Terms and Benefits
Participants in this program will receive: a 15% tax credit; check for $150,000 to be put towards a mortgage, the purchase of a new car; education of a child.
